Gold Leaf and Silver = Beautiful!

I thought I had already posted these, but apparently I had not. These are some sterling silver earrings I made in a metalsmithing class. I learned to use a rolling mill to create the image and then fused gold leaf to the piece using heat. Then, when I buffed the piece, it left the gold leaf just in the low parts of the image to create these lovely earrings!

Nice earrings! I just purchased gold leaf and I'm trying to figure out how to fuse it to silver - heat from the back I'm guessing - any suggestions?

When I learned to do it, we used a coffee warmer! Lay your silver piece on it and use some sort of tool ( we had glass rods with skinny rounded ends ) to work the gold leaf into the depressed parts of the silver. Once it no longer looks flaky, you've fused it and you can buff the gold leaf back off any high spots. Good luck!

so you didnt have to use any sizing (glue?)
I'm going to go try that coffee warmer trick right now!
thanks!
